El aeropuerto de Son Sant Joan en Palma de Mallorca se ha vuelto a abrir a las 17.55 tras permanecer cerrado desde las 16.00 por el atentado que ha costado la vida a dos guardias civiles en la localidad mallorquina de Calvià. Los puertos de Palma y de Alcudia tienen además el tráfico restringido, según ha podido comprobar EL PAÍS. Las comunicaciones marítimas con la península e interislas han quedado interrumpidas de forma indefinida, informan fuentes de la Autoridad Portuaria.

Un total de 47 vuelos, 26 de salida y 21 de llegada, se han visto afectados por el cierre, según un portavoz de AENA. De los vuelos afectados, algunos partirán con retraso y otros no saldrán. A las 18.30 no era posible saber todavía cuántos serían finalmente cancelados. Con el objetivo de recuperar la normalidad cuanto antes, AENA ha reforzado la dotación de controladores aéreos.
El cierre se debió, según una nota de la Delegación del Gobierno en Mallorca, a que se había "puesto en marcha por las Fuerzas y Cuerpos de Seguridad del Estado la operación jaula", que consiste "en cerrar la isla de Mallorca para evitar la huida de los terroristas". "Esto significa", agrega el comunicado, "que quedan cerradas las salidas desde el puerto, aeropuerto y puertos deportivos de Mallorca". También se han establecido controles policiales en las principales vías y autopistas de las islas, que están ocasionado importantes retenciones. El delegado del Gobierno en Baleares, Ramon Socías, ha indicado que, aunque es consciente de que es verano, pide la "comprensión" de todos los ciudadanos ante el despliegue policial.
Son Sant Joan es el tercer aeropuerto de España, sólo por detrás de los de Madrid-Barajas y El Prat de Barcelona tanto en número de operaciones (193.379 en el año 2008) como de pasajeros (casi 23 millones en el mismo año). Sólo el pasado mes de junio el aeropuerto de Palma vio el tránsito de más de dos millones y medio de pasajeros, unos 86.000 al día.
Tráfico restringido en los puertos
El cierre del Puerto de Palma se produjo a las 15.00, apenas una hora después del atentado, según fuentes de la Autoridad Portuaria. El otro puerto principal de la isla, en el municipio de Alcudia (en el norte) que centraliza las conexiones marítimas entre Mallorca y Menorca, ha sido cerrado a las 17.00. Los pasajeros de un total de cuatro cruceros, que suman varios miles, no pueden acceder a los barcos que se encuentran atracados, a causa de los fuertes controles que ha establecido la Guardia Civil en los tres accesos. Así lo confirmaron fuentes de la Autoridad Portuaria de Baleares, que precisan que los buques afectados son el Fantasía de MSC, el Costa Concordia de Costa Cruceros, el Thompson Destiny de Thompson, y el Oceana de la compañía P&O Cruisers, que tenía prevista su salida a las 17.00 horas, aunque ésta se ha visto retrasada.
El jueves es el día en que llegan los cruceros vacacionales a la isla, a bordo de los cuales viajan una media de entre 1.000 y 4.000 pasajeros, en su mayoría turistas internacionales, que realizan una visita a la ciudad y a media tarde retornan a los buques para cenar, o bien, para iniciar la partida hacia el siguiente puerto en su singladura. Las navieras que hacen las conexiones marítimas entre Palma y la península mantienen sin alteraciones las salidas de buques previstas para hoy con destino a la capital balear, tanto desde Valencia y Dènia como desde Barcelona. En el caso de Baleària, los dos barcos que tienen prevista su llegada esta noche a Palma han salido según lo previsto, a las 17.00, si bien la Autoridad Portuaria balear reconoce que podrían tener que parar donde hacen escala (uno en Ibiza y otro en Ciudadela) si se mantiene el cierre. Iscomar y Acciona mantienen también sus trayectos aunque las medidas pueden causar retrasos y alteraciones en las conexiones.
Cancelaciones y retrasos en otros aeropuertos
El cierre del aeropuerto mallorquín ha provocado cancelaciones en todos los aeródromos que tenían vuelos con Palma, según han informado fuentes de AENA. En el de Barcelona un total de 22 vuelos previstos para hoy entre El Prat y Son Sant Joan en Palma de Mallorca sufren retrasos, mientras que uno ha sido cancelado, según ha informado Aena, ha causa del cierre del aeropuerto mallorquín. El vuelo cancelado era un Barcelona-Palma, operado por Spanair, compañía que intentará reubicar a sus pasajeros en otros vuelos a la isla.

También están afectadas dos salidas de Vueling Airlines (17.25 y 18.30), dos de Iberia (17.25 y 18.30), y una de Air Berlin (18.05), Royal Dutch Airlines (19.15), Air France (19.15), Alitalia (19.15) y Air Europa (19.15). Por otro lado, una decena de aparatos que debían llegar de Palma entre las 17.15 y las 18.50 no habían podido despegar, entre ellos, dos vuelos de Iberia (17.15 y 18.50), dos de Spanair (17.30 y 18.35) y uno de Air Europa (17.30), KLM (17:30), Alitalia (17.30), Air France (17:30) y Vueling (18.50). Además de estos 23 vuelos, 16 más entre las 20.00 y las 23.35 entre ambos aeropuertos están a la espera de saber si podrán despegar a su hora prevista, nueve de ellos desde Barcelona y siete desde Palma.
