Suicide bombers and armed men have attacked the buildings of the Afghan justice ministry and the department of prison affairs in Kabul, officials say.
Several people have reportedly died in Wednesday's ongoing attacks near the presidential palace in the Afghan capital.
Mohammad Ali, a justice ministry official, said some of the attackers were believed to be still inside the building in central Kabul.
Two suicide bombers were shot inside the ministry during a gun battle, an official said.
Dhabihullah Mujahid, a spokesman for the Taliban, told Al Jazeera by telephone that the group was behind the attack.
Officials said five men stormed the justice ministry equipped with an AK-47, grenade and wearing suicide vests.
Violent morning
At least two suicide bombers separately attacked the department of prison affairs in the same complex.
Police, who were trying to cordon off the buildings, said that at least 10 people had been killed.
A suicide blast also took place in the north of Kabul, killing another 10 people.
Security forces said they have prevented another possible attack by shooting a suicide attacker next to the ministry of foreign affairs and the ministry of education.
Hamish Macdonald, Al Jazeera's correspondent in Kabul, said: "It seems that the gunfire has stopped for the moment ... the Afghan army and other forces have surrounded the [justice] building but not entered it."
He said the justice ministry and prisons department appeared to have been deliberately targeted by the Taliban, in response to the alleged mistreatment of Taliban prisoners.

Dijo que el departamento del ministerio de justicia y lo prisiones parecía haberse sido centrado en por el Talibán deliberadamente, en respuesta a el maltrato supuesto de presos del Talibán.
